Tackling Life Inequalities through a Health Perspective

West Belfast Partnership Board will work to improve the overall health and well-being of the population of West Belfast and reduce and eliminate the range of life inequalities, pro-actively engaging its population in the process. This work will be led by the Health Steering Committee drawn from a range of health disciplines including G.P.’s and Pharmacies; statutory groups including the Local Commissioning Group, Integrated Care Partnerships & Public Health Agency, community organisations and elected representatives.

Key Strategic Aim

To support the reduction of the gap in life expectancy and improve the quality of life for the citizens of West Belfast through tackling health inequalities.

Key Strategic Objectives:

  • To develop and enhance integrated planning and delivery by adopting a whole system approach to tackling health inequalities.
  • Development of prevention and health promotion approaches incorporating a health literacy component across health and learning environments.
  • To build resilience measures and approaches that impact on the health of our population in West Belfast
  • To reduce social isolation and loneliness by improving social connections across the life course/ age span in West Belfast.
  • To develop a ‘learning for health’ prevention approach to reduce risk factors and adopt a positive wellbeing environment.
  • To build the capacity of the community infrastructure to contribute to fulfilling the aims and objectives of a West Belfast collective approach to improving the wellbeing of our population.
  • To effectively communicate with the community of West Belfast in the pursuit of the aim and objectives, seeking to maximise the involvement of people (our population) in West Belfast (our place) – defining both as social capital and assets to increase the success of the West Belfast framework.
  • To shape and influence planning structures in addressing health inequalities through involvement on appropriate citywide development vehicles.
  • To develop & promote a health hub app that will contribute to improving access to services giving residents information on health prevention and public services within their area.

To contribute to solutions to challenges in accessing health support services in West Belfast.
